SUSTAINABILTY

Meredith Decorative, Field, and Molding tile products are among the longest lasting wall and floor covering products available. Ceramic tile has been known to last for decades and even centuries without needing to be replaced. Meredith Art Tile® is designed with a thick body and rugged glazes to stand the test of time- just as tile
has throughout the years.

‘Cradle to Grave impact’ is fast becoming the standard by which the sustainability of building products is measured. This concept puts focus on the entire life cycle of a product and has designers turning to tile-especially well made/classic tile- because of this important feature.

Meredith Art Tile® is an excellent cradle to grave product because much of the raw materials for the body are mined at a close proximity to the manufacturing site, it can last for many years and even centuries, the designs are timeless, and Meredith tile can be returned to the environment with no ill effects at end of cycle

RECYCLED CONTENT

Meredith Art Tile contains 5% pre-consumer recycled material defined as follows: Pre-consumer recycled material is a waste product of a manufacturing process, diverted from the waste stream and not normally used by industry during the original manufacturing process.

The following manufacturing waste streams, previously disposed of as waste, are now recovered and returned to our manufacturing process:
• unfired clay
• fired scrap
• glaze waste
• glazed waste water

Note: Percentage based on 2006 and 2007 production data.

DURING INSTALLATION AND ONCE INSTALLED

Meredith Art Tile® can be installed and sealed with inert products, providing air quality advantages during installation. The low absorption, kiln-fired, natural materials that make up Meredith Art Tile® produce no off-gassing sometimes associated with other finishing products. Meredith Art Tile® is neither an ‘original source’ nor a source for ‘absorbed’ volatile organic chemicals. Meredith Art Tile® will not contribute to the growth of mold and bacteria. Meredith Art Tile® will help contribute to a healthy work and living environment. Other possible sources of VOCs are the cleaning products required to clean some surface materials. Meredith Art Tile® tile can be cleaned using non-toxic, water-based cleaners.

THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS

• All unused clay is reused in tile production.

• Waste water is filtered and reused in the manufacturing process.

• Unused glazes are mixed with scrap clay and fired into usable product.

• No heavy metals are used in production. All glazes are lead free.

• Nearly all cartons contain 100% recycled material. A limited number of cartons contain 32% recycled material. All cartons are recyclable.

• The Meredith Art Tile production process well exceeds all local, state and US federal regulations and standards for manufacturing ceramic tile.

• Meredith Art Tile is, by its very nature, a long lasting - sustainable-finishes product.

• Meredith Art Tile produces no off-gassing associated with other flooring and finishes materials.
